Welcome Back Students! A Guide to Your Neighborhood Bars and Restaurants

September 17, 2018

It’s mid-September and school is in full swing. Students are back in the city, starting their classes and making the adjustment from summer to college. Even though summer is over, that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop… that’s what weekends are for!

Many of our locations are within walking distance from colleges and universities across the city. Our bars and restaurants offer a wide variety of entertainment that far exceeds just eating and drinking. Whether you’re a partier or a painter— there are plenty of options for you!

The Green Briar Pub, located in the heart of Brighton near Boston College and Boston University, offers entertainment almost every night of the week. For acoustic music lovers, The Green Briar is home of the longest running traditional Irish Seisiun in Boston. Every Monday join local musicians in an open musical collaboration-- listen along or bring your instrument and join in! Wednesdays and Thursdays are trivia nights with gift card prizes, great for a friends’ night out! On Wednesdays, test your general trivia skills on a wide range of topics, or check out the Family Feud style trivia game, Opinionation, on Thursdays. Friday and Saturday nights feature either a DJ or a live band to keep the party going all night long. The Green Briar also hosts monthly paint nights with Paint Nite Boston, where you can drink creatively and bring home a masterpiece of your own. If you’re not the creative type, there’s always darts, pool and corn hole to keep you occupied while you eat & drink!

MJ O’Connors, located in Back Bay, is surrounded by colleges and universities including Emerson College and Suffolk University. If you enjoy a tight knit community of staff and patrons, they welcome you. The MJs family loves their regular customers, and look forward to their frequent visits and friendly conversation. MJs has a variety of pub food, beers on draft, and specialty cocktails, great for a night out with friends or an after work drink. The bar has numerous TVs showing local and national football, baseball, and other sporting events so you’ll never miss a game.

For all you partiers out there, three of our locations double as nightlife venues on the weekends: Ned Devine’s, The Harp, and Hurricanes at the Garden.

Ned Devine’s, located in Faneuil Hall, has live music almost every weekend. The upstairs features three different bars—one for each room! Grab a drink and hang out with friends at the pub, continue into the lounge for DJ music, or head all the way back to the night club to jam out to live music by Boston-based cover bands. Friday night is Ladies Night with no cover for ladies before 10pm-- get there early to beat the rush!

The Harp, located near North Station, also has live music! This two floor venue has three bars and two dance floors. Upstairs, there is the main bar located right next to the stage and main dance floor. With energetic bands playing all your favorite hits, you’ll be dancing the night away in no time. The main bar gets pretty crowded, but we’ll let you in on a little secret—the side room, to the left of the dance floor, has a less crowded bar and table space to drab a drink or hangout while still enjoying the live music. The downstairs lounge features a smaller bar with a more intimate dance floor and a DJ.

Hurricanes at the Garden, located across from TD Garden, is the ultimate sports bar that also doubles as a nightlife venue on the weekends. With numerous TVs and a projector screen for all the major sporting events, Hurricane’s is the perfect bar to watch the game or pre-game for the Bruins or Celtics! On the weekends, Hurricane’s has live music and DJ nights. Friday night there is no cover all night long—perfect for that college budget!
